Connecticut homeschool graduation requirements, diploma, and transcript

Sec. 10-221a's credit requirements bind local/regional public school boards. Connecticut's separate homeschool statute (Sec. 10-184) only requires 'equivalent instruction' in enumerated subjects; the parent decides graduation and issues the diploma.

The public-school credit table, for reference
Connecticut's public-school diploma requires 25 credits. A homeschool is not held to it. It is shown as the reference a transcript is commonly read against. A recruited athlete also registers with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which grades home-school core courses against its own worksheet, separate from this table.

Assessments in the public-school rules: A board may require a one-credit mastery-based diploma assessment (Sec. 10-221a(c), transitional classes through 2026); students with IEPs may demonstrate competency through alternate assessments. These exams bind public-school students; a homeschooled student is not required to take them.

Connecticut organizes public-school graduation credits by Humanities/STEM content areas rather than classic subjects, so an exact English/math/science split isn't published by the state. HSLDA reports a new CT homeschool law is set to take effect in 2027; verify current status before relying on this summary.

CCSU frames this list as recommended coursework rather than a strict cutoff; business, health/rehab sciences, education, and engineering majors require additional coursework.
