Iowa homeschool graduation requirements, diploma, and transcript
Iowa's statewide subject-credit rules (Iowa Code § 256.11) apply to public and state-accredited nonpublic schools, not to private instruction. Since 2026 HF 2754 added Iowa Code § 299A.13, the parent or instructor of a student under competent or independent private instruction may issue a diploma, final transcript or other documentation, which must be accepted in the same manner as a school's; no equivalency diploma may be required.

The public-school credit table, for reference
A homeschool is not held to it. It is shown as the reference a transcript is commonly read against. A recruited athlete also registers with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which grades home-school core courses against its own worksheet, separate from this table.

Assessments in the public-school rules: No statewide graduation exam. Students must pass a civics test starting with the school year beginning July 1, 2026, and complete a CPR certification course by the end of grade 12. These exams bind public-school students; a homeschooled student is not required to take them.
What Iowa colleges ask a homeschooled applicant for
Iowa sets no statewide total credit count for graduation; each district sets its own. Homeschoolers are generally not bound by the state's subject-credit list unless pursuing a district-issued CPI diploma, but RAI core-course counts still matter for admission to any of Iowa's 3 public universities regardless of diploma source.
