Massachusetts homeschool graduation requirements, diploma, and transcript

Massachusetts sets no statewide diploma requirements for homeschoolers, and local school committees that approve home-education plans do not issue a diploma. The parent or home-education program issues the diploma. The Supreme Judicial Court's Care and Protection of Charles, 399 Mass. 324 (1987), is the case that sets the home-education approval framework; it says nothing about diplomas.

The public-school credit table, for reference
A homeschool is not held to it. It is shown as the reference a transcript is commonly read against. A recruited athlete also registers with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which grades home-school core courses against its own worksheet, separate from this table.

Assessments in the public-school rules: MCAS is still administered but passing it is no longer required for graduation after voters approved a 2024 ballot measure (Question 2). Since the class of 2026, the Competency Determination is based on completing required coursework instead of a test score. These exams bind public-school students; a homeschooled student is not required to take them.
What Massachusetts colleges ask a homeschooled applicant for
Massachusetts sets no statewide total-credit requirement or diploma type; homeschooling parents define their own scope and sequence. Public colleges share one uniform statewide minimum admissions course pattern (17 courses); the same pattern applies at every public campus.

These are Dept. of Higher Education minimum admissions standards shared by all UMass campuses and state universities; a 3.0 weighted GPA is also required. The Department's guide publishes one tier plus two electives of the student's choice; no separate recommended figures exist.
