Rhode Island's diploma credit and proficiency rules bind public LEAs, not homeschoolers. The local school committee approves the at-home instruction plan; RIDE's FAQ says some districts issue a certificate of completion, and families commonly write their own diploma and transcript.

The public-school credit table, for reference

Rhode Island's public-school diploma requires 20 credits. A homeschool is not held to it. It is shown as the reference a transcript is commonly read against. A recruited athlete also registers with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which grades home-school core courses against its own worksheet, separate from this table.

Assessments in the public-school rules: One performance-based diploma assessment required (portfolio, exhibition, senior project, or capstone), plus proficiency demonstrations in civics, computer science, and financial literacy (financial literacy proficiency began with the Class of 2024). These exams bind public-school students; a homeschooled student is not required to take them.

What Rhode Island colleges ask a homeschooled applicant for

Rhode Island is mid-transition: the Class of 2027 graduates under a 20-credit system with a combined 6-credit PE/Health/Arts/Technology/World-Language elective block, while the Class of 2028 onward (most students currently enrolled) follows the readiness-based 20-credit system detailed here, which explicitly requires 2 world-language credits plus proficiency in civics, computer science, and financial literacy. None of this binds homeschoolers, who set their own requirements and typically issue their own diploma and transcript.
