Tennessee homeschool graduation requirements, diploma, and transcript

Tennessee sets no graduation credit mandate for independent home schools; the parent-teacher decides completion and issues the diploma and transcript. A church-related umbrella school (Category IV) sets its own criteria, manages the records and issues the diploma itself.

The public-school credit table, for reference
Tennessee's public-school diploma requires 22 credits. A homeschool is not held to it. It is shown as the reference a transcript is commonly read against. A recruited athlete also registers with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which grades home-school core courses against its own worksheet, separate from this table.

Assessments in the public-school rules: ACT, SAT, or another 11th-grade postsecondary-readiness assessment for public-school students; a civics test drawn from the United States citizenship test during high school (Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-408; the passing mark is set by the statute, not by the sources cited here). These exams bind public-school students; a homeschooled student is not required to take them.
What Tennessee colleges ask a homeschooled applicant for
Tennessee's 22-credit public diploma, including its 2-credit world-language and personal-finance requirements, is a reference point, not a homeschool floor. Families using an umbrella/cover school should confirm that school's own diploma criteria, since it -- not the state -- issues the paperwork.
