Kid Logins, Devices, and Their Day

Device links for kid PCs and tablets, the kid dashboard, the lock for kid use, focus timers, streaks, and celebrations.

A child's Today view shows completed progress, the next assignment, and a focus timer ready to begin work.

Set up a kid PC

Device links let a child's computer sign itself in, with no password to remember and no typing for little hands.

  1. Sign in as the parent and open Children. It is in the menu under your name at the top right on a computer, or in ••• More on a phone.
  2. On the Children page, find the Child Logins card beside Add Child (below it on a narrow screen). Click Edit beside the child. Under Device Access, type a device name like "Gus's tablet" and click Create Link.
  3. Copy the link, open it on the child's computer, and bookmark it, or set it as the browser's startup page. That device now opens straight to their day.
Keep links in the family: anyone with a device link can open that child's schedule. If a device is lost or shouldn't sign in anymore, click Revoke next to its link on the Children page. The link dies instantly.

Kids can also sign in the ordinary way with their username and password, which you can always view on the Children page.

Set up a shared tablet

One tablet, several kids? Keep the tablet on your parent sign-in, open Family View, and choose All children. Every kid's day appears side by side, and each kid checks off their own work from the shared screen. Choose One child when a single kid is working independently. A kid's own sign-in works differently: it shows only that child's work, never a sibling's.

Lock a device for kid use

Handing your own signed-in computer or tablet to a kid? Choose One child and pick the child first; 🔒 Lock For Kid Use appears once one child is selected. Click it before handing over the device. Parent pages and navigation disappear. Kids can check off work, run the timer, and browse their week, but the rest of Trellis stays out of reach. The Locked - parent unlock control is in the Family View toolbar at the top of the locked screen.

The lock survives refreshes and server restarts. Only the parent password ends it.

What kids see

A kid's login opens Today's Assignments, a simple, tablet-friendly list with no grades, no clutter, and no parent controls. Just "here's your day."

The focus timer

On a computer or tablet, open work on a kid's own list carries a Focus Timer. It is preset to the assignment's estimated minutes (from the task itself or the subject's default). Kids can nudge it ±5 or ±10 minutes, hit Start, and race the clock with built-in break reminders on long stretches. Beating the clock earns the celebration.

Celebrations, tuned per kid

Each child's Celebration style lives on the Children page:
